I was lying there in the snow, looking up at the dancing light. I felt tucked in by the thick layers of clothing, and only a faint echo of the cold reached my back. The woods had the distinct smell of winter; chimney smoke, cold air.
I heard Arthur’s worried pacing, and turned towards him. His tail started wagging as soon as our eyes met. He came towards me, buried his snout in my mitten-covered hand, and laid down beside me.
I closed my eyes and listened to the singing light in the sky. I felt as if I was floating on it, moving with it, and for a moment, it was the only thing in the world.
I listened intently, with my entire body. My mind was quiet, and I felt Arthur’s breathing on my arm. Slowly in, and out. In, and out.
I felt as if I could hear the roots in the ground below me, every tree stretching towards the sky. They all had their own voices, singing. Everything was singing. I heard Arthur's tones and melodies - such a beautiful melody he had. And the mountain, even though it was far away, its deep voice traveled. The world became an orchestra of melodies around me.
I listened until my eyes decided to open. I looked around, and to my own surprise, everything was different. I felt as if a bubble had burst around me, and with it an invisible confinement had disappeared. I could finally breathe; I hadn’t even realized that I was choking.
I looked around, still perplexed by the unusual closeness of the world. With the bubble gone, I could finally feel it.
