The sky above me was lit up with bright, green light. It danced seemingly just above the frozen canopy, and as I laid on my back in the snow, it was the only thing I saw and the only thing that filled my mind. I heard my dogs worried pacing, but he slowly drifted away as the light reached down and swallowed me whole.
Suddenly, I fell into a tunnel of my own mind. When I came to myself, I saw that I was standing naked in a pitch black space. I felt as if I was somewhere at the bottom of the world.
I had an umbilical cord stretching from my navel and out into the darkness, disappearing into the shadows. As soon as I saw the cord, it scared me; It had a darkness to it.
I was in another world, and I knew my body hadn’t come with me. This was a dream, but not a dream - it was real, but not real. I had been on these journeys many times, and practiced changing my form or summoning tools and weapons. So I lifted my hand, made it into a knife, and cut the cord in a swift movement. For a moment I felt relief, but it was short lasting - a storm of black snakes shot towards me from all directions. I quickly made a shield around me, but the creatures kept pushing and sneering, and the shield closed in and pushed me towards the ground.
I knew I couldn’t hold them off for very long. As a last resort, I prayed, although I can’t say I’ve ever believed in religion. God however, is defined in so many ways, it’s impossible to know wether you believe in one or not unless you’ve clarified your definition.
A light lowered down above me. The creatures escaped, and a hand reached down towards me. I touched it, and the next moment I flew upwards like an arrow into the air. I rose all the way into space, drifting in weightlessness above the blue, beautiful Earth.
The depth of space was strewn with stars and an orb floated next to me. I reached out, and touched it.
