Body, forgive me
your wisdom went ignored
I thought of you far too long
as shell, machine, servant of my mind
but you are an extension of God, Earth
a living, breathing, complex thing
and I am grateful
for your grace
although I often hate your limited space
and pain
and all the gruesome stains that splatter
on my mind
from the gore that can be done
to bodies, like you, my body

Your world scares me, body
Mothers, matter, roots and rot
rivers, flowing, flames and
all things slowly being broken down
to pieces, to return to earth
material rebirth

Forgive me, my body
I struggle to be
in this gruesome, loving world
May I one day endure the
darkest shadows with the
most beautiful light
